What is a marriage biodata?

A marriage biodata is a one- or two-page profile that families in India share when looking for a match. It introduces the person, their education and work, and their family, and gives a contact for the next step.

Biodatas are shared on WhatsApp, matrimonial sites and in print, so a clean, easy-to-read layout makes a good first impression.

Marriage biodata format

A marriage biodata usually has an optional line at the top, the person's name and photo, personal details (date, time and place of birth, height, religion and community, rashi or nakshatra), education and occupation, family details (parents, siblings, native place), optional partner preferences, and a contact person with phone number.

Include only what you're comfortable sharing. Birth time and rashi matter to some families and not others; leave any field blank and it won't be printed.

Rules that apply

Minimum age for marriage

Marriage below 21 for men or 18 for women is a child marriage, which is prohibited and voidable in India.

Share personal data carefully

A biodata contains personal details. Share it only with people you trust, and avoid putting Aadhaar, PAN or your full home address on copies you post publicly.

Good to know

What should a marriage biodata include?

Name, photo, date of birth, height, education, occupation, family details and a contact person; optionally religion, community and horoscope details.

How long should a biodata be?

One page is ideal, two at most. Keep each detail short so it's easy to read on a phone.

How do I add a photo?

The biodata has a box for a photo: paste a printed photo there, or add one when you share the PDF. Photo upload is coming soon.

Should I include caste and horoscope details?

Only if they matter to you and your family. Leave those fields blank and they won't appear.

Can I share the biodata on WhatsApp?

Yes. Download the PDF and send it; it's small and opens on any phone.

Is my data stored anywhere?

No. The biodata is made in your browser and its details never leave your device.
