A debit note is the document a GST-registered supplier issues to increase the value or tax of a tax invoice already issued: when the price charged was too low, extra quantity was supplied, freight or other charges were added later, or tax was charged short.
Tax on a debit note is payable in the month you issue it, and the buyer can claim input tax credit on it.
A GST debit note shows your name, address and GSTIN; the words "Debit note"; its own serial number of up to 16 characters and date; the customer's name, address and GSTIN; the number and date of the original invoice; the extra taxable value and tax; and your signature.
Use the same HSN and GST rate as the original invoice, and keep the debit note series separate from your invoices.
