What is a resume?

A resume (or CV) is a short document that tells an employer who you are, what you've done and what you can do. Recruiters spend seconds on each one, so a clear layout with the most relevant experience first matters more than design.

Many companies use applicant tracking systems (ATS) that read resumes automatically. A simple, single-column layout with real text, like this one, is read correctly by them.

Resume format

A resume has your name and headline at the top with phone, email, city and LinkedIn; a two- or three-line summary; your experience, most recent first, with role, company, dates and results as bullet points; your education; your skills; and certifications or languages.

Start each bullet with what you did and add a number where you can, such as "cut load time by 40%". Keep it to one page if you have under 10 years' experience.

Good to know

What is the best resume format for freshers?

Put education and projects first, then internships and skills. Keep it to one page with a short summary of what you're looking for.

Is this resume ATS-friendly?

Yes. It's a single-column layout with real, selectable text and standard headings, which applicant tracking systems read correctly.

Should I add a photo to my resume?

Usually not, for jobs in India's private sector and abroad. Add one only if the employer asks.

How long should a resume be?

One page for under 10 years' experience; two pages at most for senior roles.

What's the difference between a CV and a resume?

In India they're used interchangeably. Strictly, a CV is a longer academic record; a resume is a one-to-two-page summary for jobs.

Is my data stored anywhere?

No. Your resume is made in your browser and its details never leave your device.
