An estimate is an approximate price for a job, given before the work starts. Contractors, interior designers, repair shops and service businesses send estimates so the customer knows roughly what it will cost.
Unlike a quotation, an estimate can change: the final bill may be higher or lower once the actual materials and time are known.
An estimate shows your business details, an estimate number and date, the customer's name, each item of work or material with quantity, rate and GST, the estimated total, how long the estimate is valid, and any conditions, such as how much the final bill may vary.
An estimate isn't a tax invoice. When the job is done, issue a GST invoice for the actual amount.
GST is charged on the tax invoice you issue when you supply. Issue it with the details Rule 46 requires once the job is done.
